You can’t help but love these little tiger-faced flowers in dark purple and orangey-bronze. I fill lots of little pots and place them in groups around the end of paths, by the back door or at the edge of a border for a joyous splash of colour.

‘Pandora’ is a double-flowered beauty, with papery petals of dusky seashell pink to powdery rose and dark cerise. Pandora is easy to grow and a serious source of joy in the garden.

Remember to sear the stems of the poppies once you have cut them, to help them last longer in the vase. You can do this by dipping the stems in just-boiled water for five seconds.

You can’t have too many nasturtiums in your garden, and this one is a deliciously, exotic dusky pink. I love it for spreading and trailing in borders, or for spilling out of pots. Don’t forget to pick its flowers and leaves to decorate your salads and puddings.

When we think of sunflowers, we often imagine the giant whoppers we grew as children with huge yellow, bowing heads. There are now so many new sunflowers to discover, your bound to find one you love. For me, the thrill of discovering a pale pink sunflower is a moment I won’t forget. Tall, but not overwhelmingly so, this one is a must-have.
