Price range: £1.34 through £9.99

Digitalis purpurea (Foxglove) Mixed Colours is a biennial with tall spikes of charming, bell-shaped flowers in a mix of pinks, purples and whites. Perfect for cottage gardens or woodland edges, it attracts bees and other pollinators.

  1. Sow indoors from January–April on the surface of moist seed compost.
  2. Lightly press seeds in but don’t cover, as light is needed for germination.
  3. Keep at 18-20c. Germination takes 14-21 days.
  4. When seedlings are large enough to handle, prick out into individual pots and grow on in cooler, bright conditions.
  5. Harden off before planting outdoors once frost risk has passed.
  6. Plant in partial shade or sun, in moist, well-drained soil, spacing 30-45cm apart.
  7. Alternatively, direct sow outdoors May-June.
  8. Thin seedlings as needed.
  9. Water regularly during establishment but avoid waterlogging.
  10. Stake if needed.
