Broccoli spragariello riccio, commonly known as broccoli ribbons, is a unique and visually striking variety of broccoli. Originating from Italy’s Campania region, this heirloom broccoli features long, ribbon-like leaves that curl and twist. This variety boasts a delightfully tender, almost sweet flavour akin to a blend of broccoli and kale. These ribbon-like florets are versatile, lending themselves well to a variety of cooking methods, from sautéing to roasting.

Broccoli –  Spigariello Riccio – Cultivation Advice

  1. Sow the seeds on moist soil at a depth of 6-12mm.
  2. Gently compress the soil and place it in a bright location, between 15-18c.
  3. Water as necessary and the seeds should germinate between 7-14 days.
  4. Once true leaves have developed, transplant the seedlings into individual pots.
  5. Transplant the seedlings outdoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost.
  6. Thin or space the plants between 50-60cm apart.
  7. Seeds can be sown directly, once the soil temperature has increased.
  8. Harvest the leaves when they are 15-20cm for the best taste.
