- After receiving the potatoes, lay them out into shallow boxes or trays and store in a cool area away from frost.
- Two weeks before you plant your potatoes, move them into a light area which is around 10 degrees Celsius so that a strong sprout is produced.
- The potatoes can turn green when exposed to light, but this is normal.
- Plant the seed potatoes in drills that are around 70cm apart in each row.
- The potatoes should be planted 30-35cm apart from each other.
- Make sure the eyes are facing upwards and planted at a depth of 10-15cm.
- Ideal soil conditions for potatoes are sandy loam soils.
When to Plant & Harvest:
First early potatoes are planted at the beginning of spring and harvested in early summer.
Second early potatoes are planted mid-spring and harvested in mid-summer.
Maincrop potatoes are planted in mid-spring and harvested in late summer and early autumn.
