Garlic Morado – Tips

• Best sown in the autumn immediately upon receipt to allow more established roots before winter and larger bulbs.
• Use well-drained soil which is enriched with organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure. This improves drainage and nutrient availability.
• Choose a location that receives full sun, ideally at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. This helps produce larger bulbs.
• Water in the morning to allow the plants to dry out before night. Watering in the evening can increase the chances of fungus.

Garlic Morado – Growing Instructions

  1. Plant the cloves 5cm deep, with the pointed end facing upwards.
  2. Space the cloves 15cm apart to allow room for growth.
  3. Water regularly during dry spells but cease watering 2-3 weeks before harvesting.
  4. Maintain a weed-free environment around the plants to reduce competition for nutrients and water
  5. As flower stalks appear, remove them promptly, this redirects energy back into the bulb development.
  6. Harvest when the foliage starts turning yellow and drying, this is typically by late June or early July
  7. Use a garden fork to gently lift the bulbs from the ground.
  8. Place the bulb in full sun to dry out for 3-8 weeks.
  9. After this, trim off any remaining roots and store bulbs in a cool, dry place where they can last up to 8 months.
