Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) Mauve Ball

Price range: £1.39 through £9.99

Producing a stunning display of flowers in clusters from June onwards, these blooms grow on strong, wiry stems reaching approximately 75cm. Centaurea is a hardy and easily grown cottage garden annual which prefers full sun and rich, well drained soil. Perfect for cutting and drying.

Growing Instructions

  1. Sow the seeds on the surface of moist compost and cover.
  2. Compress the compost as darkness aids in the germination.
  3. Place in a heated propagator at a constant temperature of 15-20c.
  4. The seeds will germinate in 14-21 days.
  5. Once the seedlings are 5-7cm, transplant into individual pots.
  6. Pinch out the seedlings when they have 3 sets of true leaves.
  7. Gradually acclimatise the plants to cooler conditions.
  8. Plant out once the risk of frost has passed.
  9. Alternatively, directly sow outside from March.
