TOMATO – GIGANTOMO F1
Currently recognised as the world’s largest beefsteak tomato each weighing up to 1.3kg (3lb) each. Developed over 20 years the variety has all the disease resistance of modern cultivars with an excellent flavour and fleshy texture. The plants are vigorous reaching up to 200cm and will produce up to 11 fruits per plant,
Due to its size it is best grown under glass in the UK allowing it a longer period to fully ripen. Due to its size it will need slightly greater spacing between plants.
Cultivation Advice TOMATO – GIGANTOMO F1
- Sow in early spring 1/16 inch deep. Germination takes around 6-14 days at 65-75F.
- Transplant the seedlings when large enough to handle into 3 inch pots. Grow on under cooler conditions and when about 8 inches tall, position in the greenhouse and plant out 24-36 inches apart.
- Provide support and tie in regularly. Remove side shoots and restrict the plant to one main stem. In late summer remove the growing tip to hasten ripening.
