WILLOW CROSSLEY

Calendula 'Sherbet Fizz'

£3.50

Calendula are one of the easiest flowers to grow. They are happy in most soils and can jostle along the borders of paths, fill gaps in your borders or tip out of pots. They also work hard for us in the garden, attracting the pollinators and helping to control aphids. I love the gorgeous apricot colour of Sherbert Fizz and its deep burgundy petal tips. Don’t forget the flowers are edible, and you can sprinkle the light peppery-tasting petals on your salad.

How to Grow

Sowing and Growing

  1. Can be sown indoors early in March and April into moist compost 18-22C
  2. Or sow seed directly where they will grow in April or May
  3. Sow thinly in shallow drills 30cm apart
  4. Water regularly
  5. You can also sow the seed in autumn for early flowering the next year and overwinter in a greenhouse or conservatory.

Grows easily with very little attention but keep the soil moist if there is a dry spell. Keep picking and it will keep growing. It will also self-sow.

Arranging

A happy jug in the kitchen brings the garden inside or mix with moody dahlias for more sophistication.
