Spinach Matador – Growing Instructions
- Spinach germinates best in cool soil.
- Begin sowing in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked and frost free.
- Mid-summer sowing in hot dry weather – risks low or erratic germination.
- Sow late July into September for the autumn crop.
- Sow about 30-45seeds per 30cm, 1cm deep, in rows 30-45cm apart and thin when large enough.
- Harvest young spinach leaves during growth and full-size, but before bolting.
- Cut just below root attachment for “rooted spinach”, or cut higher for “clipped spinach.”
- Spinach grows on a wide range of soils if moist and fertile, but is sensitive to acidity.
