Shallots Red Sun
A new Dutch shallot variety producing very consistent, round shallots with very strong and beautiful red/brown coloured skin. Also referred to as the improved Red Sun. In addition, this variety can be grown on any soil type and is suitable for long-term storage. high resistance to bolting. Can be planted out from January onwards for Jun / Jul harvest. (250 gm ~ 8 shallots)
Cultivation advice Shallots Red Sun
- Soil is best prepared the previous season with organic matter. Do not plant on a freshly manured bed. Try to avoid planting in the same place as onions from the previous year. Sow mid Feb to Late Mar usually 2 weeks before onion sets.
- Plant like small bulbs so that the tips are just showing above the soil 15-20 cm apart with 20 cm between rows. Protect during early growth if you have squirrels or pigeons in the area. Keep weed free and water during dry periods.
