  1. Sow the seeds indoors from March-May or August-September.
  2. Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of moist, well-drained seed compost and lightly cover.
  3. Keep at a temperature of about 18-21c until germination occurs.
  4. Seeds will usually germinate within 10-18 days.
  5. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
  6. Gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions before planting out.
  7. Plant out after the risk of frost has passed into their final position.
  8. Space plants about 15-20 cm apart.
  9. Water moderately during establishment, but avoid waterlogging.
  10. Cut back after flowering if required, or leave seed heads for decorative or naturalistic use.
