- Sow directly outdoors from April-June in a well-prepared seedbed.
- Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of well-prepared soil and lightly cover.
- Choose a sunny, well-drained site for best growth and flowering.
- Keep the soil consistently moist until seedlings emerge.
- Seeds will usually germinate within 10-21 days.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to about 10cm apart.
- Water regularly until established, but avoid waterlogging.
- Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the flowering period.
- Plants will flower freely throughout summer in favourable conditions.
Linum usitatissimum ‘Sky Blue’ is an annual with delicate sky-blue flowers on slender stems, perfect for sunny borders and naturalistic planting. The seeds can be pressed for linseed oil, and the fibrous stems can be made into durable, lightweight linen.
