Echinacea (Coneflower) White Swan is a herbaceous perennial with elegant white daisy-like flowers. Thrives in sunny borders or naturalised beds and makes a beautiful long-stemmed cut flower.

  1. Sow indoors February-June onto the surface of moist seed compost.
  2. Lightly cover with a fine layer of compost or vermiculite.
  3. Keep at 20-24c. Germination may take 14-30 days and can be slow or erratic.
  4. If germination doesn’t occur then cold stratify the seeds at 4c for 2-3 weeks before returning to warmth.
  5. When seedlings are large enough, prick out into individual pots and grow on in bright, cool conditions.
  6. Harden off and plant outdoors after frost risk has passed.
  7. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil, spacing 45cm apart.
  8. Water regularly during establishment; once mature, plants are drought tolerant.
  9. Deadhead to prolong flowering and prevent self-seeding.
  10. A hardy perennial that returns each year, typically flowering from the second season onward but can flower the first year.
  11. Apply a dry mulch in winter.
