- Start the seeds indoors from February-April.
- Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of moist, seed compost and lightly cover with vermiculite.
- Place in a heated propagator at a temperature of 18-20c until germination occurs.
- Seeds will usually germinate within 14–l40 days.
- If germination doesn’t occur, cold stratify for 2-3 weeks before returning to warmth.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
- Grow on in bright light and cooler conditions, avoiding overly wet soil.
- Gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions before planting out.
- Plant out after the risk of frost has passed into their final flowering position.
- Choose a sunny or partially shaded, well-drained site for best growth.
- Space plants about 20-30 cm apart in borders or beds.
- Water regularly during dry spells until established, but avoid waterlogging.
- Stake taller plants if necessary to support flower spikes.
- Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming.
