- Start the seeds indoors from February-April.
- Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of moist seed compost.
- Don’t cover as light aids germination,
- Place in a heated propagator at 18-21c until germination occurs.
- Germination can be erratic and slow but should occur within 21-35 days.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
- Grow on in bright light, keeping the compost just moist.
- Gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions before planting out.
- Plant out after the risk of frost has passed into a sunny, well-drained site.
- Space plants about 90-120cm apart, as these are large, clump-forming grasses.
- Water regularly during establishment, but once established, Pampas Grass is drought-tolerant.
- Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh growth.
- Handle with care, as the leaves have sharp edges that can cause cuts.
