Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) Delabata is a perennial cornflower with soft lavender-pink flowers. Ideal for borders, cut flowers or cottage gardens, it also attracts pollinators.

  1. Sow indoors from August-October or March-May, lightly covering the seed with compost.
  2. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors between March and May.
  3. Germination takes 14-21 days at 16-20c.
  4. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 8cm pots.
  5. Overwinter under glass if autumn-sown, then plant out the following spring.
  6. Plant in a sunny, well-drained site, spacing plants 20cm apart.
  7. If direct sown, thin seedlings to 20cm.
  8. Water as needed until established.
  9. Make sowings every 2-3 weeks for a continuous display.
  10. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering.
