Charles’ Introduction
“June is a critical month for sowing to ensure harvesting through to late autumn, beds are best replenished by twisting out spent plants and replanting without adding new compost. It’s often said that you can’t germinate lettuce under cover in summer, because it’s too hot for that – however, this is not true. I have always found that germination and growth is very reliable, as long as you keep newly sown trays out of sunlight for the first four days.”
