California Bluebell – Phacelia campanularia
Commonly known as “California Bluebell” this annual produces a steady display of intense deep blue coloured of bell-shaped flowers on 50-70cm plants. An excellent plant for bees and pollinators. The plant does well in poor sandy soils, dry conditions and in full sun.

- Can be sown in trays under cover with warmth from very early spring or direct sown outdoors later in spring after all danger of frost has passed.
- Sow in trays in fine grade seed compost with added grit / vermiculite for drainage and lightly cover with growing medium.
- Germination averages 14-28 days at 12-15C.
- When seedlings are large enough to handle prick out to individual pots and grow on.
- For direct sowing thin seedlings out 10-15 cm between plants.
- Deadhead flowers on a regular basis to prolong flowering period.
- If some seed heads are left to mature the plant will readily self-seed for the following year.
