- Remove the crowns from the packaging as soon as they arrive.
- Soak the crowns in water for 20-30 minutes to rehydrate them.
- Prepare well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny area.
- Dig a trench 20-25 cm deep and place a small mound of soil in the centre.
- Position the crown on the mound with buds facing upwards and roots spread out.
- Space crowns 45cm apart and cover with 5cm of soil initially.
- Water well after planting and keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
- Gradually fill in the trench as shoots grow until level with the surrounding soil.
- Apply mulch to suppress weeds and retain moisture.
- Feed with a general fertiliser each March.
- Water during hot spells, as the roots are shallow and can dry out.
- In autumn, cut back the foliage and mulch the crowns with well-rotted manure.
