Alyssum Carpet of Snow
Alyssum Carpet of Snow is an outstanding, early blooming, quick flowering, low border annual which produces a blanket of thimble-shaped clusters of pure-white blossoms with a sweet, honey-like fragrance and delicate beauty all season. Low spreading compact plants, 4-6 inches high, and 12-15 inches across, are densely covered with sweetly-scented, pure white florets, 1/4 inches wide, in 1-2 inch wide clusters. Very free flowering. Perfect for lining walkways, borders, edgings, in rock gardens, between paving stones, and for containers or in window boxes.
Cultivation Advice Alyssum Carpet of Snow
- For the earliest display sow seeds undercover with warmth 3-6 weeks before last frost and transplant to trays when large enough to handle.
- Plant out when all danger of frost is passed.
- Young seedling plants should be spaced 6 to 8 inches apart.
- Lightly shear back dead flowers after bloom to prolong flowering season and to prevent legginess. Although an annual, Alyssum will often reseed itself in sheltered areas. Grows best in full sun but also grows well in light shade.
