Lobelia Trailing Sapphire. Needing little introduction this pretty trailing Lobelia is found in nearly every hanging basket an bearing an abundance of strikingly deep-blue, white eyed flowers on foliage that turns bronzy-green as the plants mature. Also the perfect accompaniment for tubs and rockeries. Grows to a height of 5in. and will trail 25in.
Cultivation Advice Lobelia Trailing Sapphire
- Sow 4-8 weeks prior to the last frost under cover with warmth at 18-24C (65-75F)
- in a good fine seed compost.
- Sow seeds on surface of compost and gently firm down the compost.
- Keep soil damp but not wet, sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful to retain humidity
- and save watering whilst young.
- Do not exclude light.
- Germination takes 10-21 days depending on temperature.
- When seedlings are large enough to handle,
- transplant in bunches to trays and grow on in cooler conditions.
- Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost,
- 10cm (4in) apart in a sunny spot in light, moist soil.
