Rudbeckia hirta ‘Sahara’ is a unique and eye-catching variety producing fully double and semi-double blooms in warm, muted shades of terracotta, rose, Red, gold, and soft pink. The long-lasting flowers are excellent for cut arrangements and also attract pollinators to the garden.

  1. Start the seeds indoors between March-April.
  2. Sow the seeds on the surface of moist compost and lightly cover
  3. Place in a heated propagator at a constant temperature of 20-25c.
  4. If the seeds don’t germinate, cold stratify them for 4 weeks before placing them back in a propagator.
  5. The seeds will germinate in 10-21 days.
  6. Once the seedlings are 5-7cm, transplant into individual pots.
  7. Gradually acclimatise the plants to cooler conditions.
  8. When the seedlings have formed 2-3 pairs of leaves, pinch out the tips.
  9. Plant out once the risk of frost has passed (May-June).
  10. Deadhead the plants regularly to encourage an extended flowering period.
