Buckwheat – Growing Instructions

1. Soak the seed for 12-24 hours in room temperature water
2. Sow the seeds directly onto a moistened growing medium, which is 3-5cm deep.
3. Leave the seeds on the surface of the soil uncovered and lightly mist the seeds with water.
4. Place the seeded tray into a second tray without drainage holes. This will allow you to bottom water the tray
5. Cover with another tray on top to stop light getting in. Then place a weight inside to encourage the roots to grow down and to help the seeds make good contact with the growing medium.
6. Leave the seeds undisturbed for 2 days, there will be enough moisture in the tray for the seedlings. If more water is added, then it increases the chance of mould growing.
7. On day 2-3, check the seeds to see if they’ve germinated. If the soil is dry, then water from the bottom.
8. The seeds should be above 1cm tall and ready to be placed in a well-lit location for 5-10 days.
9. When watering the seedlings, keep using the bottom tray.
10. Harvest when the seedlings are 5cm tall. Cut the stems above the soil line with a knife or scissors.
