Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) Frosty produces double flowers in shades of blue, pink, rose, deep red, maroon, and white edged with pink. Ideal for cottage gardens, borders, or cutting, it’s also very attractive to pollinators.

  1. Sow indoors from August-October or March-May, lightly covering the seed with compost.
  2. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors between March and May.
  3. Germination takes 14-21 days at 16-20c.
  4. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 8cm pots.
  5. Overwinter under glass if autumn-sown, then plant out the following spring.
  6. Plant in a sunny, well-drained site, spacing plants 20cm apart.
  7. If direct sown, thin seedlings to 20cm.
  8. Water as needed until established.
  9. Make sowings every 2-3 weeks for a continuous display.
  10. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering.
