- Sow seeds directly outdoors from March to May in well-drained soil.
- Scatter seeds on the surface and press lightly into the soil or lightly cover.
- The seeds need light to germinate.
- Germination usually takes 10-20 days at 15-20c and can be erratic.
- Thin seedlings to 20cm apart once large enough to handle.
- Plant in a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained soil.
- Water lightly to keep soil moist until established but avoid waterlogging.
- Deadhead spent flowers to encourage prolonged blooming.
- Make succession sowings every 2–3 weeks for a continuous display.
Field Poppy (Papaver rhoeas) ‘True Wild Form’ produces classic bright red, single blooms. Ideal for borders, meadows, and naturalistic plantings, it is often seen on roadsides and is also known as Flanders or the Remembrance poppy.
