- Sow seeds from February to early March, and again from August to mid-September.
- Sow seeds 0.5-1 cm deep.
- Water and the seeds should germinate in 5-10 days.
- Transplant seedlings in March, or from August to mid-October, spacing 10-15 cm apart.
- Water regularly to maintain mild-flavoured leaves and to prevent bolting.
- Harvest from April to May for spring sowings, and from September to April for autumn sowings.
- Harvest from 25 days by picking a few outer leaves at a time from each plant.
- Protect autumn crops with a cloche or fleece.
