- Choose a sunny location with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.
- Soak the roots for 1-2 hours before planting.
- Prepare the soil by removing all weeds and digging in plenty of well-rotted manure.
- Dig a hole large enough to spread the roots, plant with the crown just below soil level, and firm the soil around the roots.
- Water thoroughly and add a layer of mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Install support such as a trellis or wires for the canes as they grow.
- In February or March, prune any dead or wayward shoots.
- Refresh mulch each spring around March.
