Pea ‘Sugar Bon’ is an excellent compact variety producing high yields of sweet, crisp, stringless pods. Reaching up to 60cm tall, it’s ideal for small spaces or container growing. Perfect for picking young and eating fresh, steamed, or stir-fried, this productive variety combines great flavour with consistent harvests.

  1. Sow seeds from late February to April in modules undercover. 
  2. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors when the soil has warmed. 
  3. Sow seeds 3-5 cm deep, placing 2–3 seeds per module. 
  4. Keep soil moist and the seeds should germinate in 7-14 days. 
  5. Gradually acclimatise the seedlings once two sets of true leaves develop. 
  6. Transplant out between late March and May, spacing plants 15–20 cm apart with rows 45 cm apart. 
  7. If sow directly outdoors, thin the seedlings to 15-20cm apart. 
  8. Cover with a fleece to protect from pests if needed. 
  9. Provide support if needed. 
  10. Water regularly during flowering and pod formation. 
  11. Harvest regularly from May to July when pods are full-sized but still tender and sweet.
