- Sow seeds directly outdoors from mid-March to mid-June in soil which is deep and stone free.Â
- Make sure the soil has been manured for a previous crop.Â
- Sow seeds 1-2 cm deep in drills spaced 30cm apart.Â
- Avoid sowing if it’s particularly wet or cold.Â
- Cover the seed and water as needed.Â
- Seeds should germinate in 14-21 days, but germination can be slow in cool soil.Â
- Thin seedlings to 10-15 cm apart once they are large enough to handle.Â
- Harvest from September to March when roots are fully grown and the tops begin to die down.Â
- Harvest as needed as the roots will stand in the ground until late winter if the soil isn’t waterlogged.Â
