Parsnip ‘Gladiator’ is a British-bred F1 variety that matures quickly to produce long, smooth roots with silky white skin. Noted for its excellent canker resistance and strong growth, it delivers reliable harvests. Sweet and tender, this outstanding variety is perfect for roasting, mashing, or for soups and stews.

  1. Sow seeds directly outdoors from mid-March to mid-June in soil which is deep and stone free. 
  2. Make sure the soil has been manured for a previous crop. 
  3. Sow seeds 1-2 cm deep in drills spaced 30cm apart. 
  4. Avoid sowing if it’s particularly wet or cold. 
  5. Cover the seed and water as needed. 
  6. Seeds should germinate in 14-21 days, but germination can be slow in cool soil. 
  7. Thin seedlings to 10-15 cm apart once they are large enough to handle. 
  8. Harvest from September to March when roots are fully grown and the tops begin to die down. 
  9. Harvest as needed as the roots will stand in the ground until late winter if the soil isn’t waterlogged.
