- Start the seeds indoors January-April.
- Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of moist, well‑drained seed compost and gently press in.
- Don’t cover the seeds as they require light to germinate.
- Keep consistently moist at an ideal temperature of 18-24c while germinating.
- Seeds usually germinate in about 10-21 days, depending on conditions.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
- Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions.
- Plant out after the danger of frost has passed, plant in their final position.
- Choose a sunny or partly shaded, well‑drained site.
Lobelia (cardinalis) ‘Queen Victoria’ produces spikes of deep red flowers above rich burgundy foliage. Ideal for borders and naturalistic plantings, it also attracts pollinators.
