Kale Borecole Heirloom Red Russian 2Gm Organic is a vigorous and attractive Heirloom variety. It colours up well even before cold weather, but especially after cool weather. The grey green leaves are oak-leaf shaped and deeply cut and intersected by purple-pink veins. Excellent for salad greens when leaves are thumb size and tender; larger leaves make delicious and nutritious cooked greens as per other kale varieties. Height up to 2 ft.
Cultivation Advice Kale Borecole Heirloom Red Russian Organic
- Plant the seeds early spring until in autumn.
- Sow 1/4 to 1/2″ deep, 1″ apart in rows 18-30″ apart. Thin seedlings to 8-12″ apart
- Transplant or eat thinned seedlings.
- Kale germinates best in cool or warm soil temperatures with even moisture.
- Choose an area with full sun and a soil pH of 6.0-7.0.
- Enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted manure.
- Harvest leaves from the outside of the plant first.
- Kale is very hardy and quality actually improves after a frost.
