- Sow indoors February-June onto the surface of moist seed compost.
- Lightly cover with a fine layer of compost or vermiculite.
- Keep at 20-24c. Germination may take 14-30 days and can be slow or erratic.
- If germination doesn’t occur then cold stratify the seeds at 4c for 2-3 weeks before returning to warmth.
- When seedlings are large enough, prick out into individual pots and grow on in bright, cool conditions.
- Harden off and plant outdoors after frost risk has passed.
- Plant in full sun in well-drained soil, spacing 45cm apart.
- Water regularly during establishment; once mature, plants are drought tolerant.
- Deadhead to prolong flowering and prevent self-seeding.
- A hardy perennial that returns each year, typically flowering from the second season onward but can flower the first year.
- Apply a dry mulch in winter.
