- Sow seeds in the second half of July in modules or trays undercover.
- Sow 1cm deep in moist seed compost and lightly cover.
- Keep soil moist and the seeds should germinate in 7–10 days.
- Pot on seedlings once large enough to handle, maintaining bright, cool conditions.
- Transplant outdoors by mid-August, spacing plants 35-40 cm apart in rows 45cm apart.
- Harvest from October to November when heads are barrel-shaped, crisp, and tightly formed.
