Blue Fescue Grass (Festuca glauca) Blue Select

An eye catching, low growing and clump forming ornamental perennial grass, ideal in pots, fronts of borders or mass plantings.  Festuca “Blue select” is a more refined version with better colour than the common variety “Varna” most often seen.

  • Sow undercover in post with warmth in early Spring or directly outside once frost danger has passed at 20C.
  • A fine seed-based compost with plenty of added grit for drainage is ideal.  Seed need only be pressed firmly into growing medium.
  • Germination averages 14-21 days.
  • Harden off young plants after all danger of frost has passed and plant to growing position with approx. 12 in spacing.
  • The seedlings will initially be silver green and develop their blue silver colour when mature.
  • Cut back foliage in early spring for mature plants and remove flower / seed stalks if you do not want them to self-seed and spread.
