- Start the seeds indoors from March-April.
- Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of moist, well-drained seed compost and lightly cover.
- Keep at a temperature of 18-20c until germination occurs.
- Seeds will usually germinate within 7-14 days.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
- Grow on in bright light, keeping the compost just moist.
- Gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions before planting out.
- Plant out after the risk of frost has passed into a sunny, well-drained site.
- Space plants about 25-30cm apart.
- Water regularly during dry spells until established, but avoid waterlogging.
- Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming throughout the season.
Aster (Callistephus chinensis) ‘Peony Mix’ is an annual with large, fully double, peony-like flowers in a mix of vibrant colours. Perfect for borders or cutting, it blooms from mid to late summer and grows up to 70cm tall.
