Blackcurrant ‘Ben Tirran’ is a late-fruiting variety that produces heavy crops of medium-sized berries with a rich flavour. The fruit is ideal for cooking, preserving and making jams.

  1. Choose a sunny location with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.
  2. Prepare the soil by removing all weeds and digging in plenty of well-rotted manure.
  3. Soak roots in water for 2-3 hours before planting to rehydrate them.
  4. Space plants 180cm apart.
  5. Dig a hole large enough to spread the roots, plant with the crown just below soil level, and firm the soil around the roots.
  6. Water thoroughly and add a layer of mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  7. In February or March, cut back any dead or wayward shoots to encourage healthy growth.
  8. Refresh mulch each spring around March.
