- Plant between September-November, before the ground freezes.
- Use a hand trowel or bulb planter and dig a hole around 2–3 times the depth of the bulb.
- If the soil is heavy, loosen it to a depth of around 15cm.
- Mix in organic matter to improve drainage and soil quality.
- Add a handful of grit or coarse sand to the planting hole to aid drainage.
- Place the bulb with the pointed end facing upwards.
- Space the bulbs 10-15 cm apart.
- Gently cover the bulb and lightly compress the soil.
- If the soil is very dry, water lightly after planting.
- Don’t water again until spring unless the weather is warm and dry.
Caution: Hyacinth bulbs can irritate the skin and eyes and are toxic if ingested.
