- Choose a sunny position with well‑drained, fertile soil.
- Remove all weeds and dig in plenty of well‑rotted manure or compost.
- Space plants about 200 cm apart.
- Dig a hole large enough to spread the roots, plant level with the soil surface, then firm in and water well.
- Install a support such as wires, trellis or fence for the canes to grow on.
- Mulch around the base each spring to suppress weeds and retain moisture.
- After fruiting, cut out the old canes at ground level and train new growth for the next year.
