Tulip Purissima

Tulip ‘Purissima’ is a Fosteriana variety, also known as an Emperor tulip, producing snowy-white blooms with elegant, elongated petals. Fosteriana tulips are noted for their brilliant colours and large flower heads. Flowering in early to mid-spring and reaching a height of around 35-40 cm, it is perfect for borders, containers, or cut flower arrangements.

Growing Instructions

Plant between September-November, before the ground freezes.
Loosen the soil to a depth of around 30cm and mix in organic matter to improve the drainage and soil quality.
Use a hand trowel or bulb planter and dig a hole which is double the depth of the bulb.
Place the bulb with the pointed end facing upwards.
Gently cover the bulb and lightly compress the soil.
Use a fertiliser in early spring, when new growth appears to support healthy blooms.

Flowering Time: March-April

• Choose a location that receives full sun, ideally at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. This helps produce larger bulbs.
• After flowering, deadhead spent blooms to redirect energy back into the bulb and allow foliage to die back naturally before removing it to help replenish nutrients for next year’s growth.
• Avoid putting tulips and daffodils in a vase together due to daffodils letting out a substance that can prevent tulips from taking up water.
