- Sow seeds indoors 5mm deep in well-drained seed compost.

- When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into individual pots.
- Harden off seedlings gradually before planting outdoors after the last frost.
- Choose a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil.
- Use gloves and space plants 30cm apart.
- Wash hands after handling.
- Be aware that the plant can self-seed if seed pods are left on into late autumn.
Ricinus communis ‘Zanzibariensis’ is a bold, architectural plant with exceptionally large, bright green leaves which is perfect for the back of borders. In late summer, it produces clusters of vivid red flowers, creating a dramatic focal point in the garden.
Caution: The seeds are toxic if ingested, always wash hands after handling. If left on the plant into late autumn, seed pods will readily scatter, potentially self-seeding in the garden.
