  1. Sow seeds directly outdoors in moist soil once temperatures are consistently above 12c.
  2. Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with light, well-drained soil.
  3. Rake the soil to loosen it and remove any stones or debris to help the roots grow straight.
  4. Sow seeds thinly in shallow drills and lightly cover with soil.
  5. Water gently after sowing and keep the soil evenly moist.
  6. About one week after seedlings appear, thin them to 3-5cm apart.
  7. As the plants grow, thin again to around 10cm apart to allow room for root development.
  8. Keep the area free of weeds and water regularly to maintain even soil moisture.
  9. Use protective netting or fleece if needed to help protect plants.
  10. Harvest carrots when the roots reach the desired size.
