- Plant between September-November in mild, sheltered areas.
- These are half-hardy and can tolerate light overnight frosts but not prolonged cold conditions.
- Soak the claws in water for 3-12 hours before planting.
- Start the claws individually in 9cm pots and grow them on in a cool greenhouse or frost-free place.
- Once the risk of frost has passed, plant directly into a sunny border or container.
- When transplanting, make sure the roots are not disturbed.
- Alternatively, plant directly outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.
- If the soil is heavy, loosen it to a depth of around 5cm.
- Mix in organic matter to improve drainage and soil quality.
- Place the claws with the claw-like roots facing downwards.
- Space the claws 10cm apart.
- Gently cover the claws and lightly compress the soil.
- Water lightly after planting and shoots usually appear after around 4-8 weeks.
