Perilla Red – Microgreen/Sprouting

Perilla Red microgreens, also known as Shiso, produce juicy green leaves and stems with a deep red hue. This herb has a mild liquorice flavour with a hint of cumin making it a perfect addition to stir fries, soups and fish dishes. Not only does this microgreen add a spicy taste to your meals, but they also include vitamins A, B and C as well as other important minerals.

Our microgreen and sprouting seeds are untreated, non-GMO, and have undergone rigorous laboratory testing for pathogens.

Perilla Red – Growing Instructions

  1. Soak the seed for 12-20 hours in room temperature water.
  2. Sow the seeds directly onto a moistened growing medium and cover the seeds and lightly mist with water.
  3. Place the seeded tray into a second tray without drainage holes. This will allow you to bottom water the tray.
  4. Cover with another tray on top to stop light getting in.
  5. Leave the seeds undisturbed for 2 days, there will be enough moisture in the tray for the seedlings. If more water is added, then it increases the chance of mould growing.
  6. On day 2-3, check the seeds to see if they’ve germinated. If the soil is dry, then water from the bottom or mist.
  7. Keep the tray in the blackout period until day 4 or when they are about 1cm tall and then place in a well-lit location.
  8. When watering the seedlings, using the bottom tray.
  9. Harvest when the seedlings are 5-7cm. Cut the stems above the soil line with a knife or scissors.
