Nasturtium Empress of India – Growing Instructions

  1. Soak the seed for 4-6 hours in room temperature water
  2. Sow the seeds directly onto a moistened growing medium.
  3. Cover the seeds and lightly mist with water.
  4. Place the seeded tray into a second tray without drainage holes. This will allow you to bottom water the tray
  5. Cover with another tray on top to stop light getting in. Then place a weight inside to encourage the roots to grow down and to help the seeds make good contact with the growing medium.
  6. Leave the seeds undisturbed for 2 days, there will be enough moisture in the tray for the seedlings. If more water is added, then it increases the chance of mould growing.
  7. On day 2-3, check the seeds to see if they’ve germinated. If the soil is dry, then water from the bottom or mist.
  8. Keep the tray in the blackout period for around 7 days or when they are about 2cm tall and then place in a well-lit location.
  9. When watering the seedlings, using the bottom tray.
  10. Harvest around day 12-16 or when the seedlings have 2-4 leaves. Cut the stems above the soil line with a knife or scissors.
