- Sow the seeds indoors between February-June and September-October.
- Use trays of moist, well‑drained seed compost and surface sow the seeds.
- Cover the seeds very lightly with a thin layer of soil.
- Place in a cold frame or warm spot until seedlings appear.
- Germination usually takes 7–20 days.
- Transplant seedlings into small pots when large enough to handle.
- Harden off young plants gradually before planting outside.
- After the risk of frost has passed, plant out 50cm apart.
- Water until established, then only in dry spells.
- Cut back old stems and foliage in spring before new growth appears.
Malva sylvestris ‘Zebrina’ is a native wild flower which produces tall stems of purple flowers with striking darker stripes which attract pollinators. Ideal for borders, cottage gardens, and naturalistic plantings.
