- Start the seeds indoors from February-June or September-October.
- Soak the seeds in warm water for 1-3 days before sowing until they begin to swell.
- Sow the seeds 4mm deep into moist, seed compost.
- Place in a heated propagator at 20c.
- Germination should occur in around 20 days.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
- Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions over several days.
- Plant out after all risk of frost has passed, spacing 50cm apart in their final flowering position.
- Water regularly during dry spells until they’re establised.
- Deadhead faded flowers to encourage a longer flowering window.
- Cut the flower stalks after the first bloom to encourage the formation of a second spike.
Lupin (Russell) ‘My Castle’ is a perennial with tall spikes of brick-red flowers. Perfect for sunny borders, cottage gardens, or mass plantings, it’s also excellent for cutting.
