Plant between September-December, before the ground freezes.
- Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with well-drained soil.
- If the soil is heavy clay, loosen it to a depth of around 15cm and mix in organic matter to improve drainage and soil quality.
- Add a handful of grit or coarse sand to the planting hole to aid drainage, especially in containers or heavy soil.
- Place the bulb with the pointed end facing upwards.
- Space the bulbs around 10cm apart.
- Gently cover the bulb and lightly compress the soil.
- If the soil is very dry, water lightly after planting.
- Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
- Leave the bulbs undisturbed to naturalise and multiply over time.
