- Plant between September-December, before the ground freezes.
- Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil.
- If the soil is heavy, loosen it to a depth of around 15cm.
- Mix in organic matter to improve drainage and soil quality.
- Add a handful of grit or coarse sand to the planting hole to aid drainage.
- Use a hand trowel or bulb planter and dig a hole 10–15 cm deep (around 3 times the depth of the corm).
- Place the corm with the pointed end facing upwards.
- Space the corms 10 cm apart.
- Gently cover the corm and lightly compress the soil.
- Water lightly after planting if the soil is dry.
- Once established, the corms can be left undisturbed to naturalise and multiply year after year.
