- Sow seeds indoors February–April or September on the surface of moist seed compost.
- Lightly cover with vermiculite and keep at 15-18c.
- Germination takes 20-40 days. Light aids germination.
- If seeds fail to germinate, cold stratify at 4c for 3 weeks, then return to warmth.
- When seedlings are large enough, transplant into pots.
- Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions.
- Plant out in full sun after all risk of frost, 60cm apart.
- It can be autumn sown in pots, which need to be placed undercover until shoots appear in the spring.
Delphinium ‘Pacific Giant Blue Jay’ produces tall spikes of rich blue flowers with purple-edged petals and dark contrasting centres. Ideal for mixed borders or cottage gardens, it adds dramatic height and early summer colour.
